Before you choose a platform, decide what email needs to do.
Choosing an email platform feels like progress. There are features, pricing pages, templates, and plenty of articles eager to name a winner.
The useful choice depends on what you’re building.
Who is the newsletter for? Why would they subscribe? What can you realistically send consistently? How should email support your content, offers, relationships, or community?
This may be a good fit if...
You’re an independent expert, founder, or part of a small team, and you want email to help grow your audience, strengthen relationships, and support your services, programs, events, or products. Perhaps…
You have several possible audiences, topics, or offers competing for attention.
Your team sends regularly, but the newsletter’s role or direction has become fuzzy.
You need an experienced outside perspective on one focused newsletter decision.
You want to start a newsletter and keep getting stuck on platforms or setup.
You have a list, but mostly send when you have something to promote.
You create content elsewhere and aren’t sure how email should fit.
What we’ll work through together
Some clients arrive with an empty list and six platform tabs open. Others already have an established program and one strategic knot to untangle. We’ll focus on the decisions your current situation requires.
-
Email's role for your business
We’ll define what the newsletter should accomplish for your business and how it should support your offers, content, customer relationships, or broader marketing.
-
Your audience and subscription promise
We’ll clarify who you want to reach, what those people should expect from you, and why giving you their email address would feel worthwhile.
-
Your content and cadence
We’ll map the themes, formats, sources, and sending rhythm that fit your goals and the time you actually have available.
-
Your platform and setup requirements
We’ll identify the features you genuinely need, what can stay simple, and which tools or setup decisions deserve further research.
You’ll leave with a direction you can use.
The session includes:
A short pre-session questionnaire so we can get to the useful part quickly.
A brief advance review of up to two relevant emails, pages, or documents.
A 90-minute virtual working session focused on your priorities and decisions.
A recording and concise written recap with recommendations and your three most important next steps.
The follow-up captures the direction we established, the reasoning behind it, and the actions worth taking first.

How the working session works
1. Tell me what’s happening
After booking, you’ll complete a short questionnaire about your business, audience, current email efforts, and the questions you want to work through.
You can also share relevant links and up to two representative emails or documents for me to review before we meet.
2. We work through the decisions
We’ll spend 90 minutes talking through what you’re trying to accomplish, where you’re stuck, and which decisions will make the biggest difference.
This is a working conversation. Bring the unfinished ideas, competing priorities, platform questions, and context that never fits neatly into a form.
3. Walk away with a plan
You’ll receive the recording and a concise follow-up summarizing the strategy, recommendations, and three priorities we identified.
You can take that direction and move forward yourself. If the session reveals a larger project that would benefit from additional support, we can scope that separately.

Why talk this through with me?
I’ve spent nearly two decades working across email strategy, deliverability, marketing, content, product, leadership, and community. During that time, I’ve worked inside email platforms, alongside mailbox providers and industry organizations, and with businesses trying to make better decisions about what to send and how email should support their work.
That range lets me look beyond the newsletter itself and consider the audience, business, content, resources, and technology around it. In this session, I’ll help you identify the decisions that matter, talk through the messy context, and turn it into a direction you can actually use.
A few frequently asked questions…
-
No. If you’re starting from scratch, we’ll define what your platform needs to support and narrow the realistic options from there. If you already have a platform, we’ll look at how well it supports the strategy you want to pursue.
You do not need to choose, migrate, or set anything up before we talk.
-
Yes. You may be reconsidering the newsletter’s purpose, trying to organize too many content priorities, evaluating whether your current platform still fits, or working through a specific change before you commit to it.
We’ll build the session around the decision you need to make and the context surrounding it.
-
Yes. You can submit up to two representative emails, pages, or documents through the pre-session questionnaire. Tell me what you want to understand or improve, and I’ll review them before we meet so we can use them as working examples.
-
Yes. The session is designed for one primary decision-maker, and one additional team member is welcome when their input is directly relevant.
Questions involving several teams, stakeholders, or competing organizational priorities may require a broader strategic engagement.
-
Yes. Writing, templates, platform setup, migrations, automations, and other implementation work can be scoped separately when useful.
If the session leads to a project of at least $1,250 that we both decide to move forward with within 30 days, your $500 session fee will be credited toward that work. Any additional project will be quoted separately based on its scope and my availability.
-
Collaborative, honest, and straightforward. We're here to guide the process, bring ideas to the table, and keep things moving.
Bring on the messy version.
Your half-built ideas. Platform comparisons. The neglected list. The scattered audience. The content you keep meaning to organize. Or that one strategic question your team keeps circling.
We’ll use the 90 minutes to decide what matters and what to do next.
